Calamus ‘Reserve’ Red 2007
VQA Niagara Peninsula $18.20 (223990) 12.7% alcohol
This red blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah is from the acclaimed 2007 vintage and was aged 30 months in French oak. It’s intensely hued with attractive aromas of smoky toast, vanilla, dark fruit and herbal notes. The generous texture and supple tannin complement fresh acidity and well-integrated oak—all a fine match for the vibrant, fruit flavours of black cherry and raspberry. Nuances of spice, toast and chocolate garnish the aftertaste. Great value, pour alongside veal chops with mushroom sauce. (Susan Desjardins)
