Baked apple with flecks of steely/mineral notes and caramel aromas precede bountiful mouthfuls of tang-laden flavour with sharp spice, passion fruit and tart lemon curd to the fore and plenty of nerve and verve throughout making it redolent of top-drawer Chablis. This showcases good complexity and depth, persistent purity of fruit and subtle nuances of elegance and excellence. Pour alongside escargot served in a mushroom cap or Tarragon chicken. Winemaker extraordinaire, Dan Sullivan, waved his magic wand over this phenomenal gem… Bravo. (Vic Harradine)

Watermelon, strawberry and rose petal aromas stream from the glass of this light-on-its-feet and made for summer and fall Rosé. Palate flavours build in the mouth with oodles of fruit on entry—red raspberry and strawberry—and plenty of tang when swallowing—ruby red grapefruit and blood orange. This is pretty much all Ontario-grown gamay noir, with a spoonful each of pinot noir and zweigelt. This dry Rosé is a perfect aperitif, serve chilled, not frig-temperature cold; or with lighter appetizers. (Vic Harradine)

Red raspberry and smoky notes mingle with passionfruit and grilled herb aromas on the nose of this highly delightful and highly affordable pinot noir. It’s a treat on the palate with tasty and tangy red fruit flavour—red raspberry and strawberry on entry morphing to tang-laden acidity expressed as passionfruit on the lengthy dry and mouth-watering finish. • Pét-Nat wine, aka Pétillant Natural vin, aka Sparkling Natural wine. It’s also considered, especially in France, to be an ancient way of making wine, or ‘méthode ancestrale’. The original concept was to make wine with as little human interference—taking out and putting in the least possible—both in the vineyard and in the winery. As an example, this wine is put into the bottle and stoppered before it has finished fermenting from ambient yeast so that the bubbles are now captured in the bottle you have in your hand from its first fermentation; unlike Champagne as it has a commercial-yeast, winemaker-induced 2nd fermentation in the bottle you purchase.
• The following 2019 Rosehall Run ‘Pét-Nat – Estate Grown’ Sparkling Wine is available in a 750 mL and 1500 mL bottles and is a blend of sauvignon blanc, gewürztraminer, pinot gris, gamay, riesling, clone 459 pinot noir, muscat ottonel and tempranillo.

Product of Canada $32.00 12.5% alcohol
Delicate aromas of floral notes and red cherry can be coaxed from the glass. A fine mousse appears for a moment when poured, it’s more a dry, spritzy wine than a sparkling. There’s a fruit-tinged wash of red berry fruit and red cherry framed by a laser-like line of tang and acidity, not sharp or tart, rather rounded and pleasant, somewhat of an oxymoron. It’s light on its feet with delicate texture and mouthfeel. Seemingly strange at first, it grows on you with each sip. The dry finish is pleasantly tangy with persistent cherry flavour and minerality on the finish and aftertaste. This would pour well with charcuterie and a baguette, prawn ceviche or a deli platter.
