Tiefenbrunner Pinot Grigio 2010
DOC Südtirol-Alto Adige $17.95 (954024) 13.5% alcohol
This is quite special, unlike and superior to any you may have tasted; even the aromas set this apart—leesy, nutty with loads of peach and pear. It’s mid weight with good mouth feel and a lovely stream of green apple, ripe pear and honeyed pit fruit. There’s good moderating acidity throughout including the mouth-watering aftertaste. An aperitif to get the gastric juices flowing, it also pours well with pasta in cream sauce with clams, or pan-seared calamari rings. (Vic Harradine)

Flying under the radar, this steals the show—it’s rich, luscious and brimming with charm and flavour. Leather, black plum and pencil shavings on the nose, it charms the palate with a fruit-forward wash of black currant, ripe sweet mulberry and spice-infused black juicy cherry. It’s deftly balanced with good carpentry—supple tannin and moderating acidity—finishing with a replay of fruit adorned with bittersweet chocolate and tarry notes mingling with savory herbs. Decant/aerate two hours and pour with rack of lamb or grilled strip loin. Pick up a few, first making certain I have mine. (Vic Harradine)

AOC Beaujolais $21.95 (233924) 13.5% alcohol
From one the top Cru appellations in Beaujolais, this bears little resemblance to Beaujolais Nouveau other than using Gamay grapes. Lilac, toasty, woodsy aromas spill from this well-balanced, fruit-forward red. Waves of juicy black cherry, red currant and pomegranate wash over the palate and through a lengthy finish laced with mocha and cassis. There’s an underpinning of supple tannin framed by moderating lip-smacking acidity. (Vic Harradine)
