• The following 2020 Speck Brothers ‘Family Tree – The Goat Lady’ Chardonnay was sustainably grown in the VQA geographical-delineated region of Niagara Peninsula. It’s 100% Chardonnay fermented and aged in American oak for 7 months and underwent partial malolactic fermentation. This wine showcases the dazzling VQA Ontario 2020 vintage. In the property adjacent to where the Speck brothers lived as children, a lady named Marion kept goats. She also put out warm bowls of goat milk for the boys’ pet dog, Boswell. It turned out Boswell was a quick study and soon moved in with Marion.

VQA Niagara Peninsula $16.95 (16792) 13.5% alcohol
Aromas of tropical fruit, nectarines and apricot dominate the nose. It blankets the palate with excellent mouthfeel, and a torrent of flavours with caramel, apple-pie spice and tangy acidity and pizzazz expressed as lemon pie filling all to the fore. This is smooth and mellow with satin-smooth texture and lengthy, deftly balanced finish and aftertaste. Pour alongside roast chicken or turkey. The price-quality balance tips well in your favour; pick up a few. (Vic Harradine)
