• The 2021 Rosehall Run Vineyards ‘Hungry Point – Estate Grown and bottled’ Pinot Gris was sourced from 100% Pinot Gris that was harvested in late September under ideal weather conditions allowing retention of good acidity and structure before frequent bouts of rain started in October. This wine was barrel fermented on lees in 500L neutral French oak puncheons for 6 months prior to assemblage and bottling. This wine was one of the great successes of the 2021 vintage.

Lifted alluring aromas of almonds and nectarine intertwine with blood orange and citrus peel. It sports creamy mouthfeel, structure and plenty of palate flavours with Mirabelle plum, ripe pear and plenty of racy tang riding a streak of passionfruit and lemon curd from twist top to last drop. Clean, crisp and refreshing. Give this a go with a sushi platter or crab cakes or line-caught pickerel; A.K.A. walleye. (Vic Harradine)
Winemaker’s Notes: A harvest marked by frequent rain changed and our usual plan to harvest our pinot noir grapes for rosé first and estate grapes destined for JCR last was flipped in 2021. This resulted in light yet wonderfully complex Pinot Noir fruit ideal for rosé with lively berry notes—a benefit of the additional hang time. To help balance the lightness of the Pinot Noir fruit, we added a portion of estate Pinot Gris that had extended lees contact, building some extra structure and depth into the vintage. The eventual blend of the finished wine is 80% pinot noir/20% pinot gris. The aging was done entirely in stainless steel and put into bottle after only six months to preserve the freshness of the fruit flavours.
