Santa Rita ‘120’ Sauvignon Blanc 2009
DO Valle Central $10.45 (23606) 13.5% alcohol
Key lime, lemon zest and hints of white peach aromas drift from this value-packed sipper. Spritzy, crisp and refreshing flavours stream over the palate with white grapefruit, racy red currant and ripe pineapple predominant. It’s light on it’s feet, mid weight and delivers a focused refreshing aftertaste. Pan-seared trout would be a great partner. This offers good value and earned its final ½ star because of it. Portugal
Sandeman Late Bottled Vintage Port 2000
DOC Porto $16.95 (113878) 20.5% alcohol
Having spent 4 years in large wooden casks and a further 5 in bottle, this ready-to-drink Port is smooth and mellow in texture and taste. Warm aromas of deep dark berry fruit with oodles of spice and hints of dried black currant rip from the glass while the sweet nectar that bathes the palate is in the juicy black raspberry and kirsch liqueur zones. Medium bodied and generously textured, it’s extremely well priced. (Vic Harradine)
