Bonizio Sangiovese di Maremma 2005
IGT Sangiovese di Maremma $12.10 (613299)
Here you have a new vintage of this well-made Sangiovese from southern Tuscany. It has solid aromas and flavours of wild berries and dark plum, with smatterings of pepper and spice. If you're looking for a versatile red to go with pizza and tomato-based pasta, this will do very nicely. (RP)
Secco-Bertani Valpolicella Valpantena Ripasso 2004
DOC Valpolicella Valpantena $15.45 (12443)
This delivers solid flavours from front to back, with the dose of clean acidity you expect of Valpolicella. The flavours are ripe red cherry and berries, with a hint of spice, and there's a core of perceptible sweet fruit running right through. It's medium bodied and dry and goes very well with veal or chicken in a tomato-based sauce. (RP)
