Juan Gil ‘Gos’ Monastrell 2009
DO Jumilla $12.95 (94888) 14.5% alcohol
Monastrell from this region of Spain has a long history and is often cultivated as a bush vine due to the intense heat and strong winds racing across the plateau. This is a nicely balanced medium-full bodied wine with great fruit flavours of red and black berries, cherries, spice and vanilla. It’s a very approachable, crowd-pleasing red with a spicy, toasty finish. It earned an extra ½ star for value. (Susan Desjardins)
