(Previously reviewed in winecurrent) This producer consistently delivers solid wines at reasonable prices. Here we have excellent aromatic typicity for a California Zinfandel: jammy, sweet fruit aromas and plenty of them. Spread on toast, it’s strawberry jam in a glass. Having spent 4 years in large wooden casks and a further 5 in bottle, this ready-to-drink Port is smooth and mellow in texture and taste. Warm aromas of deep dark berry fruit with oodles of spice and hints of dried black currant rip from the glass while the sweet nectar that bathes the palate is in the juicy black raspberry and kirsch liqueur zones. Medium bodied and generously textured, it’s extremely well priced. (Vic Harradine)
