• The following 2020 Malivoire Wine Company ‘Small Lot’ Chardonnay reflects the terrific 2020 Vintage in all Ontario VQA appellations. Grapes were sourced from three prime sites with 9.0% on September 10 from the Estate Vineyard/16.0% on September 18 from the Mottiar Vineyard and 75.0% from September 19 to 22 from the Moira Vineyard. Fruit was whole-cluster pressed with 68% of the juice finishing primary fermentation in stainless steel tank while resting on its lees and 20% rested in steel barrels and 12% matured in neutral French oak. The finished wine was blended in June 2021 and bottled two months later. Alluring aromas of honeydew melon, floral and savoury notes add garnish to the predominantly orchard-fruit aromas of ripe pear, Mirabelle plum and ripe apricot. A medium-bodied, nicely textured, tang-infused stream of palate flavours showcase lemon curd, lime cordial and green apple decorated with baking spice. There’s excellent persistence and purity of fruit, deft balance and plenty of pizzazz on the palate, finish and aftertaste. In a word, this is delicious.
