Cantine Polvanera ‘14’ Primitivo 2008 

DOC Gioia del Colle, Italy $17.00 14.0% alcohol
Urban legend has it Italian Primitivo was first identified as a preferred varietal in this DOC by priest Francesco Indellicati in the late 1700s. Cherry cola, exotic incense and tobacco leaf on the nose, this medium-bodied, tangy red forms a ribbon of racy flavour with char, red berry, cranberry and sour cherry to the fore. This dishes up a delightful, delicious mouthful of value-laden red Bordeaux. Aromas of sandalwood and rich, dark cherry roll from this medium-bodied nicely textured gem. This red blend—Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo —hailing from Serranía de Ronda, was hand harvested spending 12 months in French and American oak and produced organically. Aromas of spice, underbrush and plum jam segue a mouthful of flavour brimming with prune, raisin and super-ripe dark berry fruit.
